The  agenda 21  moorings  near to the yard were set up as part of the Rio protocol against climate change. Most of the boats run solar and wind energy systems.

All along the canal there has been extensive new build but many of the properties have been buy-to- let and there are no shops, pubs or community facilites included in the developments.

Castlemill community boatyard in central Oxford which is under threat of being built on by luxury housing  developers.  Oxford Author Phillip Pullman has recently come out in open support for keeping the boat yard as it 
is.

Mafeking, a 100 year old  wooden craft being craned out at Castlemill boatyard, Jericho, Oxford.  The yard is being shut down  by  British Waterwyas; being sold off to Bellway Homes property developers. Owner  of the boat, Bronwen Morgan  says it's  the only yard that can crane her out.
